To my 88 year-old mother, Joan Jett is still a young-thing at 57 (and eternally for me). I believe I heard somewhere that Joan Jett turned 57 this year. The validity of my thoughts would be an appropriate subject of conjecture. They filmed our conversation and I shared my thoughts about this. The two ladies I spoke with asserted a belief that competitors in the Phoenix Market have collaborated more effectively and with more success than in other markets. Their consultants have been talking with people around the country about community based transitional care and the relative success and sometimes failure of these types of efforts in different markets. I was fortunate to spend some time with a healthcare think-tank and CMS contractor. Last week was a fun week for other reasons. He seemed a little uncomfortable with his fascination, his parents’ presence and Joan Jett. He was immediately fascinated with her performance and with her. My son’s first experiences with Joan Jett were not unlike mine. We spent the remainder of our breakfast together listening to, watching and singing along with different versions of Joan Jett and the Black Hearts performing Crimson and Clover. “A sort of grass” says my wife, while I mumble something about the Irish and good luck, while reaching over my coffee for the laptop to look up any child of the 80s’ best reference to clover. The other morning at breakfast my son asked my wife and me what clover is. He usually asks about a cool word like “Crypto-biotic’ and seldom about lame words like “lima-bean”. He comes home often asking the meaning of some new word. In Los Angeles, Jett's favorite night spot was Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco, a venue that provided the glam rock style she loved. My son is five years old and in kindergarten this year. Shortly after the move, her parents divorced and she changed her name to Joan Jett, because she thought it had more of a rock-star sound than her birth name (she has admitted in recent years that "Jett" was not actually her mother's maiden name, even though that is what she used to tell people). Her family then moved to West Covina, California, in Los Angeles County, providing Jett the opportunity to pursue her musical interests. She took some guitar lessons, but soon quit because the instructor kept trying to teach her folk songs. Jett got her first guitar at the age of 13. Her family was Protestant, attended church, and went to Sunday school, but were not strict in their religious beliefs. In 1967, her family moved to Rockville, Maryland, where she attended Randolph Junior High and Wheaton High School. Her father was an insurance salesman and her mother was a secretary. Joan Marie Larkin was born on September 22, 1958, to James and Dorothy Larkin, at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia (although some sources list her birth date as September 22, 1960, which is incorrecd). Jett lives in Long Beach, New York, and has been a New York resident since the late 1970s. In 2015, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Jett has a mezzo-soprano vocal range. She has three albums that have been certified platinum or gold. She has been described as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. With The Blackhearts, Jett is known for her rendition of the song "I Love Rock 'n Roll" which was number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in 1982. Jett's other notable songs include "Bad Reputation", "Crimson and Clover", "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)", "Light of Day", "I Hate Myself for Loving You" and "Dirty Deeds". Jett is best known for her work as the frontwoman of her band Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, and for earlier founding and performing with the Runaways, which recorded and released the hit song "Cherry Bomb". Joan Jett (born Joan Marie Larkin, September 22, 1958) Is an American rock singer, songwriter, composer, musician, record producer, and actress.
